To You I Leave Flopsy Who Will…
It is sensible to make a will. All of us know this, but actually doing it seems such a inconvenience.  How much thought went in these “wills with a difference”?

Even the famous magician and escape artist, Harry Houdini, couldn’t escape death. Having died from a ruptured appendix, one of his biggest surprises came with the reading of his will. His magicians equipment went to his former partner Theodore, who was in addition his brother. His magical powers failed on the next term – his considerable library of books on magic and the occult. He left these to the American Society for Psychical Research, but only on the term that their research officer J Malcolm Bird, who also was the editor of their journal, resigned. They rejected the conditions the collection was given to the Library of Congress.

The trained rabbits that he utilised in his performance vacated their hats and were distributed amongst the children of friends. Continuing the strange theme, his left his wife 10 words, which were a secret code, with the promise that he would use these words to reach her from the afterlife. Each year for ten years, following his death, she reliably held séances, but Harry never made contact.

Kozmic Blues and rock singer Janis Lyn Joplin had a brief but memorable career. She sung many rock classics and four albums, including “To Love Somebody” and “Me and Bobby McGee”. After years of drugs and drink, she died from an overdose, aged twenty seven. Two days prior to her death in 1970 her  online wills      the sum of 2,500 dollars to sponsor an all night party at her favourite pub so that her mates could “get blasted after I’m gone.” It must have been some wake – that was a large amount of money back in 1970.

We’ve all read about people that, unexpectedly, give all their money to the cats’ home, much to the dismay of their relatives. Lot’s of family feuds start when a will is read. As long as there is no reason to doubt the clear thinking and freewill of the writer when the will is made, there is often nothing that can be done to contest such a decision.

Quirks aside, if you die without writing a will, the people who you would wish to inherit wont always be the ones that do so. You might have a partner of many years, but if you’re not married or in a legal partnership, he or she won’t receive your estate, regardless of your aims and promises. This can be sad when it’s not clearly stated and can result in devastating financial consequences.

The modern method to get your will started is to search online and source a will call      . However simple your designs are, it’s best to get the professionals to make it for you and you can be assured that you’re leaving your estate exactly how you would want.
